Take the classroom to the coast.
Bring your learning objectives to life through a lasting relationship with the kelp forests, tide pools, and marine life in our backyard.
A SEA LEAGUE PROGRAM FOR SCHOOLS
Why we call it Pelagix.
Pelagic is the scientific term for the open ocean — the vast middle zone where most marine biodiversity lives, moves, and migrates. Pelagix is built in that spirit: a program defined by motion and direct engagement with living ecosystems.
Developed in partnership with the UCSB Benioff Ocean Science Laboratory and delivered by Sea League, Pelagix brings working marine scientists, university researchers, and trained ocean coaches together under a dynamic curriculum, anchored in one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems on the West Coast.
Recreation, biodiversity, and stewardship in one program.
Stewardship
Mentorship from UCSB students who often stay with the same kids across multiple seasons. Direct exposure to working marine scientists and the local ocean conservation community.
Ocean Play
Swimming, surfing, snorkeling, paddling. Students build comfort and capability in the water, guided by trained coaches.
Marine Science
Tide pool surveys, kelp forest study, watershed tracking, and beach ecology. Students collect water quality data and submit observations to ongoing citizen science projects.
Recreation, biodiversity, and stewardship in one program.
